Paanaka is similar to lemonade or limeade made with a few simple ingredients, water, sugar or jaggery, fresh lemon juice and flavored with cardamom powder. This fast and easy to make Paanaka is refreshing and rehydrating during hot summers. This cooling beverage is really good choice to beat the fierce sun and the extreme heat during summers.
The recipe is very simple to prepare and there is nothing much to prepare. In this recipe I have used sugar as sweetener, but sugar can be replaced with jaggery. Adding jaggery will give a distinctive taste, but more authentic.
3 cups water – at room temperature
Bowl(s)
Instructions
Step by step guide
1. Take 3 tablespoons sugar in a bowl.
2. Add 3 cups of water and stir well till the sugar is completely dissolved.
3. Now take a lemon(s) and give it a roll on the countertop, halve and squeeze the juice into a bowl.
Instead, you can directly squeeze the lemon juice in to the sugar syrup.
4. Add the lemon juice.
5. Take 2 cardamoms, remove the seeds, rinse and crush them to powder.
6. Add cardamom powder.
7. Mix well.
8. Gulp or serve fresh Paanaka.
Sugar takes some time to get dissolved even if you stir non-stop for few minutes. Instead of stirring till it dissolves, you can soak the sugar in water and keep it for 5 to 10 minutes. While the sugar is dissolving you can extract the lemon juice, and powder cardamom.
