Chutney or Chatni

Chutney (chatni) is a side dish for tellevu, dose, idli, roti, and sometimes chutney is also mixed with rice. Chutney is made from fresh coconut as main ingredient, and a wide range of additional ingredients. All the ingredients along with grated coconut are grinded and tempered with spices. Chutneys are simple to make, and packed with flavors.

Kosambri or Kosambari or Salad

Kosambri is a simple and delicious vegetable salad. Vegetables are finely chopped or grated, mixed with spices, salt, lemon juice, and optionally lentils or pulses. You can have this tasty kosambri as a side dish with your meals, or as a snack.

Pickle

Pickle is an intrinsic part of our cuisine. Pickle is enjoyed as a side dish with everyday meals, and also with tellevu, dose, idli, and roti / rotti. The most popular is midi uppinakaayi - midi is tender unripe whole mangoes, and uppinakaayi is pickle. During mango season, it is a custom to make this pickle in enough quantities so that it last for a year, i.e. until next mango season.
