Havyaka Heritage

Havyaka Brahmins are a small community with unique and dynamic culture living in the beautiful hills and valleys of Sahyadri (Western Ghats) mountain range, predominantly in Uttara Kannada and Dakshina Kannada districts of Karnataka for centuries. It is said that Mayurasharma (Or Mayuravarma), the Brahmin King and the founder of the Kadamba dynasty, brought few Brahmin families from northern part of India to perform royal rituals - 'Havan' and 'Homa' - during 4th century CE. The name 'Havyaka' is originated from the rituals these Brahmins were performing, 'Havan' and 'Homa'.
